Ikat is one of the most famous weaves in India. The earliest reference to Ikat comes from the murals of the Ajanta caves, dating back 1600 years. It is a unique weave, where the threads of the warp or weft are patiently tied and then dyed multiple times, to acquire different colours. Sometimes both are tied and dyed creating the Double Ikat.
